Cristiano Ronaldo scored for the 10th straight league game and Gareth Bale found the net on his return from injury as Real Madrid crushed Rayo Vallecano to restore their two-point league lead.

Bale opened the scoring when he turned in a low cross from Toni Kroos. Sergio Ramos made it 2-0 from a corner but Alberto Bueno pulled one back after a James Rodriguez mistake. Kroos scored from 25 yards and Karim Benzema tapped in before Ronaldo scored a breakaway goal to complete the rout. The Portuguese star now has a staggering 23 goals in all competitions this season, including 18 in 10 league appearances. Real had briefly been deposed as league leaders by Barcelona on Saturday, but responded in typical style. Bale, preferred to Isco in the starting line-up after recovering from a muscle injury, took only nine minutes to get on the scoresheet. Ronaldo fed Kroos down the left and the German's low cross left Bale with a simple tap-in. Benzema headed against the bar from a corner, but Real extended their lead from the next set-piece as Ramos stuck out a thigh to loop the ball past Cristian Alvarez. On the stroke of half-time, James Rodriguez handed the visitors a life-line as he inexplicably gifted the ball to Leo Baptistao. Rayo's top-scorer calmly passed to Alberto Bueno, who rounded goalkeeper Kelor Navas and slotted home. Any danger to Real's supremacy was snuffed out in the space of four second-half minutes. Ronaldo set up Kroos to curl a fine low shot into the corner, and Benzema tapped in the Portuguese's cross, albeit from an offside position. Ronaldo's inevitable goal arrived seven minutes from time as he burst onto Isco's through-ball, cut inside and released a shot, which squirmed under Alvarez's body. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/29954300

Beijing subway passengers tried to raise alarm before accident victim was dragged to her death

A witness of Thursday’s horrific accident at a Beijing Subway station that killed a female passenger said the train started moving just five seconds after she became trapped between the train door and the platform edge door. Liu Jun, who was waiting for a train at the door next to the victim, told the South China Morning Post that passengers on the platform tried to alert the driver by pounding on the platform doors, but to no avail. Pan Xiaomei, 33, was killed after she became trapped in between the two sets of doors and was dragged down on to the tracks. The tragedy unfolded when she tried to board the train at Huixinxijie Nankou station on Line 5 just before 7 pm on Thursday, according to mainland media. According to a report by news website caixin.com, a subway worker said there are sensors installed on both the train doors and the platform doors. But the sensors will only stop the doors from closing when people are stuck in the doors, not in the gap between the two doors. “[They] should install sensors in between the train doors and the platform doors,” the worker was quoted as saying. Liu, the witness, added: “The station was very crowded at that time. It was the rush hour, and the station is an interchange stop between Line 5 and Line 10. There were several dozen people waiting outside each door.” Liu said because of the crowds, he did not notice what happened until people on the platform started to hit the platform doors, desperately trying to draw the attention of the driver and stop the train from moving off. However, the attempt to raise the alarm failed and the train started moving just five seconds after Pan got stuck, Liu said. “I heard seven or eight very loud sounds when she was dragged down by the train, and I could no longer see her. People [on the platform] were all scared and they all ran to the side. Many, including me, could not bear to look at it,” he said. Liu recalled that there were no subway staff on the platform at the time of the accident. “It’s very strange. Usually there are always people on the platform to maintain order, but there was no one yesterday.” About seven subway staff and two policemen hurried to the scene about five minutes later and sealed off the site, Liu said. Beijing Subway and the transport authorities could not be reached for comment despite repeated calls from the Post. Pan was rushed to the China-Japan Friendship Hospital. A post on the hospital’s official Weibo account said Pan was not breathing and had no pulse when she was brought to the hospital. A doctor told the Beijing News she had suffered bruises and multiple bone fractures. “[Her] chest was totally soft, it must have been crushed,” the doctor was quoted as saying. The accident happened on the second day of Apec meetings in the capital. The city’s municipal government has banned cars from the roads on alternate says to ease congestion and reduce pollution during the summit – measures which the capital’s transport authorities have estimated would lead to an extra one million extra passengers on the subway every day, caixin.com reported. The Post reported on Thursday that some stations in central Beijing were closed periodically to regulate the number of passengers during the rush hour. A similar accident took place in Shanghai seven years ago. In July 2007, a man who tried to force himself into a crowded train got stuck between the train door and platform edge door. He died after being dragged down to the track by the train.

Cristiano Ronaldo might sign new contract with Real madrid

ristiano Ronaldo says he wants to see out his contract at Real Madrid, which has nearly four years to run. The Portuguese forward, 29, has been linked with a return to Manchester United, whom he left to join Real in a then-world record £80m deal in 2009. He was presented with the European Golden Shoe on Wednesday for scoring 31 La Liga goals in 2013-14. "I hope to finish my contract with Real Madrid at 33 and after that we'll see if they want me to stay," said Ronaldo. "I feel young and still a long way off retiring." Ronaldo shares the Golden Shoe award with Uruguay's Luis Suarez, who scored 31 Premier League goals for Liverpool last season before joining Barcelona for £75m. The Portuguese, who has been nominated for the 2014 Ballon d'Or award to decide the world footballer of the year, has already registered 22 goals in all competitions this season. In total he has scored 194 league goals in 174 appearances for Real, while netting 55 times in 55 Champions League matches for the current holders.

2015.5 Volvo V60 Cross Country Debuts at L.A. Auto Show

Following in the footsteps of the existing XC70, Volvo will revisit the idea of a station wagon that's ready to leave the beaten track with the V60 Cross Country debuting at this year's Los Angeles auto show. Based on the standard V60 station wagon, the new V60 Cross Country adds more rugged looks and mild off-roading ability. Compared to the standard wagon, the Volvo V60 Cross Country has 2.6 inches more greater clearance, and both all-wheel drive and hill descent control come standard. While nobody expects to see this model tackling the Moab Trail, the Volvo V60 Cross Country also comes with higher-profile tires on 18- or 19-inch wheels, front and rear skid plates, and fender cladding. The treatment is similar to the way Subaru transforms the Impreza into the XV Crosstrek, or Audi turns the A4 Avant into the Allroad.
When the 2015.5 Volvo V60 Cross Country launches early next year in the U.S. and Canada, it will be offered exclusively with a 250-hp, 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. A Volvo spokesperson in the U.S. said that will be the only engine for the V60 Cross Country for the immediate future. We suspect that at some point, however, the Cross Country could add the 2.0-liter turbo-four T5 Drive-E engine and eight-speed automatic that make 240 hp and return 25/37 mpg (city/highway) in the standard V60, as well as possibly the 325-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six from the V60 R Design. It's even possible Polestar will get its hands on the Volvo V60 Cross Country and tune it; the company already gave the regular V60 wagon a 345-hp punch. http://www.automobilemag.com/auto_shows/los_angeles/2014/1411-2015-5-volvo-v60-cross-country-debuts-at-l-a-auto-show/

Volkswagen's deep-rooted arrogance in China

Volkswagen Group China faces nationwide protests after owners of the New Sagitar expressed dissatisfaction over its handling of a recall to fix a potential defect in the suspension system. After extensive complaints about a broken axle from owners of the New Sagitar made by FAW-Volkswagen, the German carmaker was forced to announce on October 17 to recall 563,605 New Sagitars and 17,485 Beetles. But Chinese consumers were furious to learn that VGC’s solution to the recall is only putting up a metal plate on the rear torsion crank axle of the problematic vehicle. At a press conference on October 24, VGC said that this “will stabilize the vehicles and send warning noises” in case of a failing axle. VGC’s executive vice president Soh Weimin said that “the axle is safe and installing the metal plate is like ‘providing a double assurance.’” Angry car owners protested at Volkswagen dealerships in major cities in China displaying banners condemning Volkswagen for being “irresponsible” and putting customer’s life at risk. A message circulating on the QQ social media urged New Sagitar owners to stage another round of protests in 100 cities on November 9. New Sagitar owners demand that Volkswagen replace the problematic rear suspension or take back the vehicles for a refund. Some analysts believe that VGC’s solution for the recall lacks sincerity and respect for consumers because the cost for replacing the rear suspension of the problematic cars would amount to only half of the German carmaker’s annual advertising budget. A group of New Sagitar owners have reportedly enlisted the Beijing Jingshi Law Firm to represent them in a possible law suit. Of the more than 100 clients, 53 said the rear suspension of their New Sagitar has various problems which make it unsafe to drive. Similar to the case of VGC’s DSG crisis earlier in the year, the German automaker has taken little heed to customer complaints and refused to recall problematic vehicles until the government steps in. Analysts have attributed Volkswagen’s arrogant behavior in China towards consumers to its leading market position in the car market. The company’s deep-rooted arrogance comes, however, not from its dominating market position. As one analyst points out, VGC’s partner FAW is not a private company, nor a centrally administered automaker. Its real partner is “the central government under the Communist Party.” Over the past 30 years in China, the German automaker has developed a deep-rooted arrogance seen in no other markets because through extensive government relationship and successful lobbying plus advertising power it has been capable of reducing negative media to the minimum. VGC has developed into a tendency of refusing to properly respond to customer complaints unless the government steps in. Unless VGC changes its attitude towards consumers in China, the brand image of Das Auto may be severely damaged in the world’s largest new vehicle manufacturing country. http://www.chinaautoreview.com/pub/CARArticle.aspx?ID=11440

Hala Madrid

It was Suarez’ pass that put Neymar in on goal, Messi’s run taking several defenders with him for the space to open up, allowing the Brazilian to bend his shot into Iker Casillas' left-hand corner from just inside the penalty area. Neymar has now scored in his last six games and matched his tally from last season, with nine so far. Both team’s had complained about the relatively early kick-off before the game and it seemed to have affected Madrid’s defenders, who were slow to everything in those early exchanges. The early goal set the tone at the other end too. Madrid, the wounded beast, surged forward and Barcelona struggled to contain them with Gerard Pique doing his best to hold together the visitor’s defence. On ten minutes Real so nearly leveled when Ronaldo crossed from the left and Benzema headed on to the bar. From the rebound he smashed another shot goalwards that grazed the bar with Claudio Bravo beaten. Bravo then saved from Toni Kroos’ long shot as Real kept the pressure up. Barcelona finally got some respite when Suarez forced a corner from Dani Carvajal. With 15 mintues played he was the only Barcleona forward not to have been booked with both Messi and Neymar shown yellow cards. It was a well-behaved start after the ban for biting Georgio Chiellini and he was causing havoc in a Madrid defence that still seemed to be carrying a dazed and confused Pepe. Barcelona almost took full advantage of the malaise in the middle of the home side’s defence and Messi could, and should, have made it 2-0. It would have been Suarez’ assist had it gone in. The former Liverpool striker ran into territory vacated by an out-of-position Marcelo and crossed for Messi, setting up what would have been league goal number 251 of his career, but Casillas saved brilliantly at the Argentine’s feet. Barcelona would rue the missed chances because Real Madrid drew level 10 minutes before half-time, when Pique appeared to slip in his own area and blocked a Marcelo cross with his arm, leaving referee Jesus Gil Manzano with no option but to point to the spot and book the defender. From the spot-kick Cristiano Ronaldo scored to end Bravo’s run of 776 minutes in La Liga without conceding and set up the second half perfectly. Madrid were in front after 50 minutes when Benzema fed Ronaldo down the right. His shot was blocked by Pique but from the resulting corner Kroos planted the ball on Pepe’s head and the defender, who had so much trouble in the first-half, rose highest in the area to head past Bravo. Barcelona had still not conceded a goal in open play all season but they were 2-1 down at the Santiago Bernabeu. Suarez was still full of running and released Neymar as Barcelona tried to hit back straight away. With a lung-busting run Suarez made it into the area for the return pass but the referee penalised him for a foul on Ramos as he lost and regained the ball from the Spain defender. Barcelona were throwing everyone forward but leaving themselves dangerously open at the back and on the hour they paid the ultimate price. Rakitic’s corner was cleared to Isco who spun away from Iniesta and played in Ronaldo. He released Ronaldo who played in James Rodriguez who found Benzema who scored. It was a goal worthy of winning any game.
